We’re delighted to confirm that Sumo Group will continue to support SpecialEffect and Solving Kids’ Cancer in 2024, as well as supporting events run by GamesAid.
Sumo has proudly supported SpecialEffect for well over a decade and helped with countless events, as well as runs, football matches and more. SpecialEffect is a charity which puts the fun and inclusion back into the lives of physically disabled people across the world through the innovative use of technology. This special partnership will see us continue to support the charity through fundraising and individual giving, as well as the support for events and initiatives including their Masters Golf Day, One Special Day and British Racing Greats.
2024 will mark our third year of partnership with Solving Kids’ Cancer – a charity close to all of our hearts here at Sumo. SKC are striving to support the children and families affected by childhood cancer.
Finally, GamesAid will continue to receive support and sponsorship from Sumo for its events year-round, including the annual GamesAid Go-Karting and regular bake-offs. GamesAid is the games industry charity which raises money for other charities working with children and young people. We’re proud that people across Sumo are GamesAid members and are able to help the charity achieve its mission.
Elsewhere, our studios around the world will be supporting charities close to their hearts and communities through a range of activities, donations and fundraising.
"Charity runs through the heart of Sumo, and we’re very proud to not only support these great causes, but that our people are so enthusiastic about fundraising, helping out and supporting" said Charity Partnerships Manager, Polly Ord.
"We're looking forward to more of our teams taking time out to give back to their local communities through Volunteer Days, and having the chance to learn something new, meet new people or pick up a new skill all while supporting great causes.”
Over the last 12 months, we’ve been proud to support a range of fantastic charities across all of our studios– including Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, The Clock Tower Sanctuary, Polish Humanitarian Action, The Bristol Sunflower Ward and so many more.
In 2023, our people:
- Ran over 800 miles at events including Tough Mudder, Oxford Half Marathon and the Great North Run.
- Go-Karted almost 500 miles as part of the GamesAid Go Karting Championship – with teams including Sumo Group and Red Kite Games.
- Streamed just under 100 hours for great causes including SpecialEffect and Become Charity.
- Knitted 80 hats for the Newcastle West End Foodbank.
- Played over 30,000 minutes of football (no, really!). Over the course of 2023, over 40 footie-fanatics from across Sumo Group laced up their boots and played in matches in aid of SpecialEffect.
- Grew 13 moustaches across two of our studios – Sumo Nottingham and Atomhawk – for Movember.
- Abseiled 100 feet and faced fears to raise money for SpecialEffect.
Not to mention over 200 hours volunteered at charities including St Luke’s Donation Centre, Cape of Hope, Greyhound Trust, Foodcycle, Friends of Di’s Kitchen, the Samaritans and more.
2023 was an incredibly inspiring year, and we’re already seeing our people put their best charity feet forward and getting stuck into all the activity on the horizon for 2024. Check back later in the year to see what they get up to.
