Sumo Group at Gamescom 2024

Our teams headed out to Gamescom to share insights into upcoming titles, network and showcase their expertise in talks and roundtables. It’s been a busy few days, so let’s catch up on everything that happened in Cologne this year:

DEATHSPRINT 66 HITS THE GROUND RUNNING

The latest title from Sumo Newcastle and Secret Mode – bipedal combat racing game, DEATHSPRINT 66 - could be found lighting up the show floor at this year’s Gamescom.

A new developer diary for DEATHSPRINT 66 was featured during the Into the Infinite: A Level Infinite Showcase which took place on Wednesday 21st August and was streamed on Twitch and YouTube. DEATHSPRINT 66 was also available to playtest at the Level Infinite booth.

Throughout the event, publisher Secret Mode also offered media and creators the chance to step into the world of DEATHSPRINT 66 with hands-on previews, and the opportunity to interview the development team at Sumo Newcastle.

Finally, the Future Games Show team shared their first impressions of DEATHSPRINT 66 after their hands-on preview with the game, which you can catch up on here from 34:07.

In DEATHSPRINT 66, players will participate in thrilling, 8-player PvP on-foot races across extreme obstacle courses that push the boundaries of entertainment. Run, jump, drift, slide… and try not to die as you navigate through deadly tracks. Find out more about this fast and furious bi-pedal racing title on the Sumo Digital blog.

DEATHSPRINT 66 speeds onto PC on 12th September 2024.

CRITTER CAFÉ IS ALMOST OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Also from the teams at Sumo Newcastle and Secret Mode is Critter Café, a cosy game in which players create their own, fully customisable café and rescue magical critters from mysterious portals.

At Gamescom, media got exclusive access to Critter Café in behind-closed-doors playtest sessions hosted by Secret Mode. Audiences gained new insight into the game during its inclusion in the Future Games Show – Expansion Pack, where Gameplay Programmer Eleanor Gregory was interviewed, and new gameplay was exclusively revealed. You can catch up on it here from 45:45.

Critter Café is due for release onto PC and Nintendo Switch later in 2024.

SECRET MODE’S CATALOGUE IN COLOGNE

Sumo’s publishing wing, Secret Mode, were also out in full force at this year’s Gamescom, and brought their eclectic and exciting range of titles to the show for attendees to discover.

Cosy tidying game A Little to the Left, sustainable alien exploration game Loddlenaut and pick’n’mix racer Make Way were all available to pick up and play throughout the event at the Level Infinite Booth.

Also available was Parcel Corps – a cycling game which puts players on two wheels as they ride along walls, grind rails… and startle pigeons? The game was available to test at the Xbox Booth, which brought over 60 titles from Xbox first and third-party developers to the event, and at the Level Infinite Booth.

DIVING INTO DEVELOPMENT

Also in Cologne this month, Sumo saw people from its global teams share their expertise during Devcom 2024.
